Do Not Think

Do not think My Dearest,

Kindness and interest shown …

That I am weak and still in love,

Rest assured this heart can be hard as stone.

And, I will not waste; nor give further time

To him or her who feels or think I’m blind.

You broke my heart with words,

Words you can’t undo;

For the love and friendship,

Of an altogether different hue.

And, in this place and time …

Where nothing is; and nothing seems,

Quite the right sublime, your love for me

Was much simpler had I thought to read between your lines.

Heavy my heart may lie,

Before the darkness you have helped supply

And in the chaos that always follows,

I try to withstand this aching hollow.

You take from me … all from me

Life’s small happiness; suck me dry,

Pull my oxygen, cut my cords.

Leave me hiding; trying not to cry.

Saw what you wanted,

And in my madness I still loved you more,

Controlling, lulling, satisfying,

You were all that I adore.

You only saw my lips, my hands, my thighs,

Drowning in the youth you craved.

Now, you think I’m still yours,

Because the little death you gave.

And my eyes would be the ruin of you,

Large and sweet … doe-like … blue and green.

Love whispered in the night

Say we’re special, different, a  King and Queen.

But Baby … we were neither.

And you missed this love,

You missed the depth in mine eyes.

With a simple push and a troubled shove.

Do not think my Dearest,

Kindness and interest shown …

That I am weak and still in love,

Rest assured this heart is hard as stone.
