Two Fools

Both of us are fools, yes, you and I,

Looking elsewhere for a love,

The kind that leaves a glimmer in our night,

Of breathless flashes far above.

And, oh, how many moments will be missed?

For lack of this most passionate kiss.

Yet, both of us are fools, yes, you and I

For loving those who never knew how.

And we will trip and fall …

Until that last final … fateful bow.

In the end, will the drama have been worth,

All the weeks, days and seconds spent,

Wondering if you were all she meant?

Both of us are fools, yes, you and I

Wasted time … mining lies,

Lingering glances, wanting, caressing.

For none were wise.

And, when you lay her down,

Before she once more breaks your heart

Will I be the one you call … to help you make it art?

Oh … how we could have loved …

If even for the briefest phase,

What could have been … maybe … perhaps,

All the what ifs’ of life’s greatest maze.

Both of us are fools, yes, you and I,

The question now, who played the bigger fool …

Was it  Me … or was it You; or in the end was it but a tie for you and I?
